Performance art in and around Nelson, B.C.
Hi, I’m Karmelle.
I moved to Nelson from Winnipeg at the end of 2018 in order to be closer to my dad.
Two years earlier in 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at the University of Winnipeg. To the graduation ceremony, I wore a hair extension I dyed purple and braided to the side, plus false lashes and freshly minted grey gel nails with rhinestones on them.
I held my glorious and brand-new degree in its folder while I enjoyed the treats at the reception’s snack tables. Within minutes, my official B.A. certificate was imprinted with the oils from a cookie, and it remains so to this day.

The arts and music scene in Winnipeg is/was much different from Nelson’s.
Over the first year or two after I arrived, I lost connection to my biggest passion and the focus of my degree: stage performance.
Fast forward to 2023, and things in my life crashed together. Like I was a ship on a stormy sea and the stormy sea f**ed me up hard.
My bow splintered and my withered sails sagged. To make it worse, a cannon ball was shot my way from an approaching galleon…
Picking up from the wreckage, I took a medical leave from my job in social work. Since that day I have been, as someone in my past used to say, as sober as a judge.
Not much time passed before I remembered I did stuff. Like shows and stuff. And that I wanted do stuff again.
I started Super Normal Productions in May 2024 when I produced my original play Sméagolly Blonde.
Under the drag alias algorerhythm I found a new way to channel my love for character, music, and comedy.
In September 2025, I organized and hosted a weekend of performance workshops at Oxygen Art Centre called Your Story, Your Stage.
In 2026, Super Normal Productions is an umbrella to hold all my stage projects, be it drag, theatre, workshops, or anything else my brain hooks into and won’t let go of.
Why did I make this blog?
After the Mosquitos, I wanted to read what people who saw it had to say. But I couldn’t find any local post-show commentary. I couldn’t let there be only pre-show promotion, with nearly zero evidence that the show took place!
So, I decided to be the historian and wrote an article myself.
